Description of Responsibilities:

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics is seeking an Assistant Professor in Natural Resource Economics. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in natural resource economics, quantitative methods, and economic theory. The individual will also advise graduate students, conduct applied research and contribute to interdisciplinary efforts related to natural resource issues in Colorado. The incumbent will contribute resource economic analysis to the CSU College of Agricultural Sciences’ Strategic Initiatives. Publication in highly ranked refereed journals and other outlets, securing external funding, and service to the University, profession, and society are expected. Prior to the tenure decision, the incumbent will develop and lead a widely recognized applied research program on issues of importance to Colorado and the profession. The initial appointment will have responsibilities weighted approximately 40% teaching, 50% research, and 10% service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in applied economics or a closely related field. The degree must be completed by Aug 1, 2013.
  • Specialization in natural resource economics.
  • Command of the theory and methods in the field of natural resource economics including, but not limited to, appropriate modeling of the utilization of natural resources, dynamic optimization techniques and practices, and institutional dimensions of these problems.
  • Demonstrated quality research productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability or interest in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Ability and interest to participate in teaching, research and outreach relevant to Colorado resource issues such as land use, forestry, minerals, energy, water, recreation, tourism and wildlife.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to one or more of the CSU College of Agricultural Sciences Strategic Initiatives.
  • Willingness and ability to secure contract and grant funding.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Facility with quantitative methods in environmental economics, including non-market valuation and benefit-cost analysis, and their application to real world economic decisions and policies.
  • Ability and interest to participate in teaching, research and outreach related to geographic information systems (GIS) and/or spatial econometric techniques in applied economic analysis.
  • A supporting field or specialization in (International, Regional, or Community) Development Economics or Public Finance/Policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to disseminate applied research results to traditional and non-traditional audiences, including local, state and federal technical staff, elected officials and private industry.
  • Professional experience in the private sector or public sector outside of education.

Effective Date:

The position is available as an annual 9-month tenure track appointment beginning August 12, 2013.

Salary:
