Post-Doctoral Position in Energy

The Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future at Boston University (BU) seeks applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to support a research project on the interdisciplinary aspects of energy transitions that is funded by the Mellon Foundation.  The successful candidate will serve as a post-doctoral Fellow at the Pardee Center, with a joint appointment in the Department of Geography and Environment in the College of Arts and Sciences, and will work with BU faculty, Boston-area faculty, and a group of international visiting scholars.  Issues to be addressed include the cultural, social and historical forces that generated earlier energy transitions;  differences in driving forces between developed and developing nations;  and the attitudes, behaviors, policies, and institutions that are needed to manage, or perhaps even engineer, the impending energy transition.

The main tasks of the Research Associate will be to stimulate interdisciplinary exchange among participants, coordinate a year-long seminar series, support PhD students in the project, and coordinate publications and outreach. In addition, the Research Associate will develop his/her own research projects within the thematic framework of the project.

This position is offered for one year, beginning 1 September 2010.  Applicants must have a PhD.  We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a background in the Social Sciences or related professions such as Law or Business.  However, candidates from the natural sciences and engineering with demonstrated interdisciplinary experience are encouraged to apply as well.

Applicants should submit a letter of motivation, their CV including a publication list, and an outline of their own research plans (max. 1000 words) to Ms. Theresa White at <<theresaw@bu.edu >>.  Applicants are required to supply the names of three individuals who can be contacted to provide letters of reference.

Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2010 and continue until the position is filled.
