A 2-YEAR POSITION as post doctoral researcher on assessing how to reduce GHG emissions from the fishing industry and contribute simultaneously to green development, is available at the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland, Reykjavik Iceland.
Objective: To assess how reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts from the fishing industry and examine to what extent steps in this direction are welfare enhancing. The successful candidate will assess the emissions from the Icelandic and Norwegian fishing industries and identify mitigation possibilities. The successful candidate will also: i) evaluate the relationship between different fisheries management systems and greenhouse gas emissions ii) conduct a policy analysis to identify to what extent the authorities can push the fishing industry to greater marine resource conservation and GHG-reductions within the existing management systems, and to what extent new ones are needed iii) investigate how standard measures of economic success in the socio-political discourse capture gains derived from reduced GHG-emissions and conservation of marine resources and suggest improvements in the context of green national accounts
Applicants for this position are requested to submit a research proposal that explains how he proposes to deal with these issues.
Mobility is encouraged across the different GreenMAR nodes, and this particular case will entail spending part of the time in Stockholm Resilience Center and at Wageningen University.
Qualifications: The candidate should have a PhD in economics, environmental science or related disciplines. Experience in fisheries management, fisheries economics, green national accounts or assessment of GHG mitigation is a plus. The applicant should have a keen interest to work in an interdisciplinary environment with scientists from different disciplines. In particular, any documented experience in bringing together insights from environmental sciences into economics would be a key asset. We also emphasize that we are looking for a candidate with good communication skills across different disciplines and cultural backgrounds, as well as good collaborative and organizational skills. A good command of English is required. The candidate must have a proven record of independent work.
