The Water Institute

Background

The Water Institute of the Gulf is a not-for-profit, independent applied research institute based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana dedicated to providing advanced understanding and technical expertise to support management of coastal, deltaic and water systems, within Louisiana, the Gulf Coast and around the world. Recently the Institute has been named the RESTORE Act Center of Excellence for Louisiana and will be administering a multi-year competitive grants program to provide research that supports the implementation of the Louisiana Coastal Master Plan.

Position Description

The Institute is seeking applicants for an Environmental Economist position with a focus on coastal and deltaic systems, and interest in integration of economics with biogeophysical system dynamics and the role of economics in large-scale ecosystem management and/or restoration decision making. We are seeking individuals with established research credentials who can work independently, attract external funding, and collaborate with our existing team.  Responsibilities will include conducting, reporting and publishing independent research; developing collaborative projects with colleagues within the Institute and at other research organizations; and actively seeking external funding to support research activities. Depending on the level of the appointment and how this new research area evolves, the position may entail supervisory responsibilities and a contributory role in the organization of research activities at the Institute. A joint appointment with a Louisiana university is a possible added dimension.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, several years post-doctoral and/or project managerial experience, and a track record of research funding and scholarly publication. The Institute expects to offer a competitive salary commensurate with a candidate’s skills and experience. This is a full-time exempt position and includes a full range of employee benefits.
