The Bellagio Center in Italy offers a quiet setting conducive to focused work and a thought-provoking, collegial environment. The Residency Program allows for one-month of disciplined work, uninterrupted by the professional and personal demands of daily life, in a diverse and stimulating community of fellow residents. Residents include scholars, scientists, journalists, writers, artists, non-governmental organization practitioners and policymakers from around the world who have strong records of accomplishments. In addition to time for writing, creativity and reflection during the day, collegial interaction with other residents is an integral component of the Bellagio experience. Meals and informal presentations of residents’ work afford an opportunity for dynamic discussion and engagement with each other. During special dinners, residents interact with participants in international conferences hosted on the Center’s property. The Foundation welcomes projects in all disciplines, but is especially interested in projects related to one or more of its current focus areas: Social & Economic Security, Basic Survival Safeguards, Urbanization, Climate and Environment, and Global Health. Collaborative residencies for two to four persons working on the same project are also welcomed.
Competitions are biannual and take place each fall and spring with deadlines in early December and early May, respectively. To learn more about the program, please visit http://www.rockefellerfoundation.org/bellagio-center.
