Agricultural Economics and Rural Development – Quantitative Analysis / Modeling impact of CAP policy instruments on regional / local economy and farming
The Agriculture and Life Sciences in the Economy Unit has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher to work on modeling the effects of Rural Development policy instruments in regional/local economies within the SUSTAG (sustainable agriculture) Action. This action is currently carrying out research on quantitative assessment of CAP impact on rural areas, both from the point of view of farm holdings and regional economy.
The successful candidate will participate in:
- conceptual work and analyses of effects of agriculture-rural policies (ex-ante and ex-post) on rural/farming economies through:
- development of quantitative tools for the impact assessment of CAP, with a particular focus on Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models, Econometrics, or Mathematical Programming.
- carrying out socio-economic analysis on rural economies;
He/she should have experience and a track record of research in at least one of the following scientific areas: Computable General Equilibrium (CGE), Econometrics, or Mathematical Programming as applied to the assessment of agricultural/rural policy impact on farming/rural development. The candidate should possess strong analytical skills. Experience in analyses based on case study approach is an asset, knowledge of modelling tools and software (e.g. GAMS) is required. The ability to work in a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary environment is necessary.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to obtain a PhD (certified by the university) or having a minimum of 5 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a masters degree) in a field relevant to the JRC’s scientific activities.
A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
