At the International Institute Zittau (IHI), a Central Academic Unit, the Chair of Ecosystem Services offers, subject to resources being available, a project position in the BMBF-project TeichLausitz as Research Associate (subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L) starting October 1, 2021 for a period of 36 months with 80% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG).
The inter-and transdisciplinary, collaborative research project TeichLausitz investigates governance options, policy instruments, and measures for safeguarding biodiversity and the long-term provision of ecosystem services of sustainably managed pond landscapes in the states of Saxony and Brandenburg, Germany.
Tasks: independent research on existing governance structures and policy instruments for biodiversity conservation and rewarding environmental services in pond landscapes; development of governance options, innovative instruments and measures for better integrating species diversity and ecosystem services in public and private decision-making, supporting sustainably managed carp ponds; consideration of behavioral sciences; synthesis of results from ecological, social sciences and economic project modules; co-creation of knowledge and practically relevant governance options together with pond farmers, representatives from authorities and NGOs within the multi-stakeholder-platform of the collaborative project.
Requirements: very good or good university degree (Master or equivalent) in economics, social, political or environmental sciences or related fields; preferably a PhD in a field related to the requested research field; very good German and English language and communication skills and proven interest to work in interdisciplinary teams. Experience in scientific publishing and presentations, in conducting third-party funded projects and interactions with stakeholders, as well as a background in qualitative and/or quantitative empirical methods, are of advantage,
