Assistant Professor – Environment and Sustainability (SEaS)

The School of Environment and Sustainability (SEaS) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join a new Blue / Water and Sustainability Initiative in the College of Arts and Sciences.

This initiative is part of the College’s Discovery in Action program, which supports engaged and interdisciplinary research, public scholarship, and preparation of students for impactful careers.

This position welcomes applicants who explore human, water, and economic dynamics in areas such as (but not limited to):

  • River ecosystems
  • Groundwater aquifers
  • Coastal or open ocean systems
  • Water quality, weather, flooding, and disasters
  • Fisheries and aquaculture
  • Water transportation
  • Renewable energy

Research may connect to conservation, resource management, sustainable development, or climate resilience.

Essential Functions

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses in Environmental Studies, focusing on water-related systems and dynamics (e.g., conservation, resource management, sustainable development, economics, or climate resilience).
  • Conduct scholarly research on water and its relationship to the economy.
  • Participate in professional service opportunities such as SEaS faculty meetings, committees, peer review, and other college or university service activities.

Minimum Requirements

A PhD in Environmental or Sustainability Studies or a closely related field is required prior to the effective date of appointment.
