Engineer Research and Development Center

Position: Ecological Economist, DB-408-02

Salary:    $31,315 – $125,695 per annum

Promotion and Pay Potential:  The full performance level of this position is the DB-4 level.  Pay and cost-of-living adjustments within pay band are based on performance.

This position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Brief Description of the Program:  You must have a Grade Point Average of 3.5 in 4.0 system in the subject matter field.  This position is in the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).  The purpose is to provide the ERDC a method of bringing professional talent into the civilian workforce.  This is a full time permanent position.

Duties: Conducts fundamental and applied research in the fields of ecological economics to include the valuation of natural resources, ecologically integrated technologies, integrated ecological/economics modeling at varying scales, renewable resource management and conservation,  assessments of the basic assumptions of ecological and economic paradigms, valuations for ecosystem services, and greenhouse gas sequestration dynamics on military lands. Applies professional knowledge and experience in ecology, economics, statistics, and modeling to develop tools for improved guidance for: (1) land use changes in regions around military installations, (2) changes in climatic conditions, and, (3) changes to military mission needs.  Research issues studied include uncertainties in the requirements for military land and military landscape conditions. The economics related to actions and those related to inactions will be key elements of the analysis of the management space on military installations.
