Affiliation: Postdoctoral researcher at the Social-Ecological Systems Institute at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany.
Student Representative of ESEE (2018-2020)
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Social-Ecological Systems Institute at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany. My research addresses ecological economics’ social and political dimensions, focusing on sufficiency, eco-social utopias, critique of work, and economic pluralism. Currently, I investigate determinants of desired consumption levels (“enoughness”) across Europe as part of the Mainstreaming Social Ecological Sufficiency (MaSES) project. I employ a mix of qualitative, quantitative, and transdisciplinary methods.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics and a master’s degree in Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy from WU Vienna, Austria. In 2022, I completed my PhD in Economics at WU Vienna’s Department of Socioeconomics, where I analyzed the geography, concentration, and paradigmatic orientation of academic economics using a large-scale bibliometric dataset. After that, I worked at the Austrian Public Health Institute, researching the intersections of health, poverty, and climate action. I have long-lasting ties to the ecological economics community in Vienna, where I have taught courses, supervised students, contributed to conferences and coordinated op-eds. As the student representative of the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE), I managed its country contact network.
I am running for the ISEE Board because Ecological Economics is my academic home, which I want to be thriving. I’d aim on strengthening ISEE’s engagement at the science-policy interface, advance student involvement by drawing on my interdisciplinary teaching experiences and enhance the engagement of ecological economics with other heterodox economic disciplines. Finally, I advocate for an academic environment that promotes collective action for social justice and environmental sustainability.
