Introduction

Climate change is one of the greatest threats to the human civilization and the toughest challenge for economic development in this twenty-first century. The scientific communities of developed countries warn the world leaders regarding the threat of climate change and warn about its inevitable impact on human society. How do we measure the climate change and its impacts on the economy? Is there any scientific theory and empirical evidence? How do we assess the climate change impacts and adapt it? More specifically, how do we adapt and mitigate climate change recently in global scale? To assess the climate change a multidimensional study is required engaging several experts and producing one handbook explicitly focusing on climate change and related issues. This handbook provides the world community with the most up-to-date and comprehensive scientific, technical, and socio-economic information about climate change impact assessment, technology, adaptation and mitigations in the world. It will identify major issues related to climate change on health and environmental sustainability, focusing on impact measurements, policy, adaptation, and mitigation in the world scale as well as national, or regional and local scales.

The main objective of this handbook is to improve the understanding of scientific analysis and promote evidence based policy formulation in the global, regional, and local levels. This handbook of research on climate change will be a textbook on climate change for new learners for the coming years. The upcoming publication of this handbook will be a research compilation of global climate change. Contributions should preferably be mostly or fully completed but not yet published elsewhere since the timeframe is short, as can be seen below. The book will provide in one or two volumes a collection of viewpoints and information. It is a collaborative effort of distinguished experts from around the world. This comprehensive handbook covers a wide range of potential research areas, including: Socio-Economic Scenarios, Climate Change Scenarios, Science and its applications, Adaptation to Climate Change – Theory and Assessment, Water Resources, Coastal Zones, Agriculture, Human Health, Energy, Forest, Fisheries, Biodiversity, and Ecosystems, etc.

Objective

This handbook shall provide insight into the global climate change. Additionally, this handbook will cover different critical aspects of global, regional, and local climate change, such as assessment, adaptation and mitigation. This handbook is a comprehensive and timely analysis of various aspects of climate change and its consequences that aim to be an essential reference source built on the available literature.

Target Audience

The book will be used at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as professional courses. It will also act as the bridge for practitioner, academia, business, and industrial sectors and for academics, engineers, technologists, business personnel, apprentices, students, managers, governmental executives, and industrialists. Moreover the book can be potentially used to train managing authorities and staff working at different levels within local and regional institutions.
