Professorship in Sustainability and Economic Anthropology


The Faculty of Geosciences and the Environment at the University of Lausanne opens 3 new professorships at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGS). One of the positions is in sustainability and economic anthropology and is dedicated to the concept of strong  sustainability in a perspective to explore possible futures of the human condition and its socioeconomic organization that are compatible with lighter material living on the planet. The position is not linked to any particular academic discipline but to a field of environmental research at the intersections of (economic) history, anthropology, philosophy, ecological economics and sociology. A strong knowledge of sustainability issues is required.

The successful candidate will teach courses in sustainability and economic anthropology both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She/he is expected to build up and lead a vigorous, internationally recognized research program attracting external funding.

Depending on experience, the appointment is expected at the rank of full professor or at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor with the possibility of full professor status within 5-6 years.   • a statement of research and teaching goals and interest (not exceeding 3 pages)
  • reprints of the five most significant publications
  • the names and contact information of five referees.
