Renewable Energy Research Coordinator: Illinois Value-Added Sustainable Development Center/Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs/Western Illinois University

The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (www.iira.org) at Western Illinois University has an opening for a Renewable Energy Research Coordinator for the Illinois Value-Added Sustainable Development Center. The individual selected will coordinate an interdisciplinary research and outreach team of internal and external collaborators to inventory and map feedstocks for bioenergy and bioproducts in Illinois. The position may be structured as an academic professional position or a post-doctoral fellowship.

The successful applicant will have earned a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in geography, agronomy, ecology, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental economics, or other relevant field. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in at least one form of quantitative analysis; relevant areas include GIS and geospatial analysis methods, statistical analysis methods, ecological modeling techniques, and quantitative methods in environmental economics. Applicants must have familiarity with academic literature and the ability to engage in interdisciplinary research and outreach, biophysical and socioeconomic data integration, and participatory research. They must demonstrate knowledge of agricultural, environmental, rural or renewable energy issues. They also must be able to organize and facilitate research and outreach teams, and have strong public verbal and written communications skills. This position requires significant amounts of travel throughout the state. Demonstrated interest for engagement in interdisciplinary research and outreach, biophysical and socioeconomic data integration, and/or participatory research, advanced proficiency in GIS and geospatial analysis methods and evidence of peer-reviewed publications are preferred. Individuals holding a PhD (or PhD ABD) are encouraged to apply.
