The Department of Environmental Politics is offering a part-time (50%) position for a Research Scientist (Post-Doc; m/f) (code digit 166/2012) available for up to 48 months, conditional on final approval of the EU, within the EU-FP 7-funded project “Operationalisation of natural capital and ecosystem services: from concepts to real-world applications” (Open-NESS).
The project with more than 30 European partners will develop innovative and practical ways of applying the concepts of ecosystem services (ESS) and natural capital (NC) in land, water and urban management and policy making. It will identify how these concepts can be further developed and mainstreamed into policy making at European and other policy levels. Furthermore, it will analyse in a set of case study contexts (ranging across different localities, sectors and scales) and in cooperation with stakeholders how to improve the usefulness and relevance of these concepts for problem solution. The project is thus transdisciplinary but also highly interdisciplinary requiring close interaction between natural and social scientists from various disciplines.
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- Coordination of a work package on regulatory frameworks and drivers of ecosystem change.
- Independently conduct specific tasks, in particular guide and conduct policy analyses in several European policy fields.
- Contribute to reporting and management issues.
- Interact with other working groups within the project, in particular in relation to conceptual frameworks and case study work, and organise jointly stakeholder-workshops.
- Contribute to the analysis and publication of project results.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in political sciences or related disciplines and experience in applying methods of policy analysis in various policy fields. She/he will be familiar with policy making at the European level and with the European multi-level governance system, within but also beyond environmental policy. Moreover, she/he should be used to interdisciplinary work with natural scientists preferably in the field of ecosystem services science or biodiversity research. We seek a scientist who is highly motivated to work within and take responsibili-ties in a team with a broad range of scientific backgrounds.
