2024-2025 Treasurer

Elisabeth Veivåg Helseth

Affiliation: Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA)

I am an ecological economist working at the Norwegian Institute of Nature Research (NINA). My main fields of interests are the diverse values of nature, as well as degrowth/ post-growth futures. I am strongly dedicated to making knowledge from ecological economics more accessible to all.

If I get to serve on the ISEE board, I hope to inspire ecological economics collaborations across academic disciplines, policy, and civil society. I am also a founding member and coordinator of the academic postgrowth and degrowth network for the Nordic countries (Postgrowth Nordics), and I hope to contribute to more regional cooperations to inspire socially just postgrowth futures. Moreover, I am co-chair for the 18th biennial ISEE conference that will be hosted in Norway in 2025, for which I can act as a link between the board and the Local organizing committee of the conference.

Prior to becoming a researcher, I have 13 years of experience from working in the Norwegian public sector, both as a regional climate advisor, and as a national advisor on rural community development. This background helps me to understand the challenges faced by decision-makers at different levels, and to identify how academic knowledge can contribute to sustainability transformations. My academic background includes an Mphil in Culture, Environment, and Sustainability (2008), an MBA in Ecological Economics (2017), and a PhD (2023) in International Environment and Development Studies – with emphasis on ecological economics and institutional economics.
